Oil company closes leaving customers in the cold

OXFORD, Mass. (WHDH) -- Ed's Oil, a local oil company, has closed, leaving customers in the cold.

The sign on the door said closed, and the company's voicemailbox was full on Friday.

Customers who paid for their oil in advance are angry.

?Yes, yes we did [get ripped off],? said Nancy Lahair, a customer.

The Lahairs say Ed's Oil owes them almost $680 worth of oil they called and called, but got nowhere. They just paid $800 to another company to fill up the tank.

?It?s such a bad time for it to happen especially with the oil prices what they are. You got to pay double now,? said Philip Lahair, a customer.

The Lahairs took note when the name of the company changed this year - from Ed's Oil, to E and E. Their last delivery was just 57 gallons even though their tank was empty.

?I just wish he was a little more honest with us and told us when he knew he was going to have problems,? Philip Lahair said.

The Lahairs have filed a small claims suit, but believe the owner will declare bankruptcy, and they'll be out of luck.

There was no sign of life at the Ed's Oil location in North Oxford all week.

Ed's second location in Webster was empty - it's reportedly been shut down for months.

Oxford police answered complaints all day Friday. An officer says she got a call from a party supply store in Webster, the manager saying they are owed $2,000 worth of heating oil.
