Google picks Chile for its Latin America servers

(AP) ? Google Inc. has chosen a site just outside the capital of Chile for its first data center in Latin America.

The $150 million project will house computer servers capable of storing vast amounts of information.

It's a win for Chile, which has campaigned to attract high-tech businesses in recent years. Google says it picked the site in suburban Quilicura because of the skilled workforce and infrastructure and business-friendly regulatory environment.

Once built, the data center will employ just 20 people ? a few skilled computer technicians as well as security personnel, to make sure nothing stops the computers from humming along.
